The
Gnostic Mass and other communal ceremonies require a reproduction of
the Stele of Revealing to adorn the high altar. The Company of Heaven
produces a Stele of Revealing for use in this ritual context. Our intensely coloured and highly defined 'Sanctuary' Stele is designed to be clearly identified as a focal point by the congregation, even at some distance from the high altar in candlelight. The new artwork created specifically for this Stele is an accurate delineation of the original but painted in the colours described by Crowley himself in the Book of Results in 1904. |
Recording his impressions of the Stele of Revealing immediately after its famous 'discovery' by his wife, Ouarda the Seer, Crowley used specific artist's pigments to describe the image of 'Horus' he recalled seeing.
The intensity of the experience is reflected in terms of strong contrasts between the complementary opposites of the deep blue of the Deities' bodies and the brilliant yellow 'light' surrounding them, as well as the red of the solar disks and the green of the ureaus.
These colours have been applied throughout the 'Sanctuary' Stele to create a visually powerful image which adds beauty to the rich altar setting.
The 'Sanctuary' Stele is a full sized reproduction of the Stele of Revealing, measuring approx. 31cm width x 51cm height x 3cm depth.
Made of a lightweight fibre-board, partially laminated with acacia and other woods, the Sanctuary stele is stuccoed with traditionally-made gesso.
For visual clarity in a ritual context, the surface texture seen on other Stelae produced by the Company of Heaven has been omitted and a low sheen gloss varnish applied instead.
